Course updates

Spring is now just around the corner and the maintenance staff is gearing up for a great 2011 season.  I will now continue to update the blog with course conditions.  I chose to move the Course Report to this blog for more member and maintenance staff interactions.  You can post comments that will aid us in providing quality conditions that meet your needs.  I encourage everyone to become a "Follower"!

Due to the of weather of 2010, we will be seeing this throughout our rough and other courses
throughout the country.  I believe it will take much of 2011 to recover from such a brutal season.

We have begun removing plugs from par 3 tees to place in greens and collars where seeding
did not take.  The remainder of the par 3's will be sodded with zoysia just as we did with #6 tee.
I believe the zoysia will prove to be a quality teeing surface throughout the golfing season.

The staff will also be directing cart traffic off the path on #13.  Yellow rope and stakes will be
moved periodically to reduce wear of the turf.  Please proceed with caution when driving towards
#14 tees.  The entire green bank area will be roped off the remainder of spring season, while we
begin seeding and bring this area back to health.

The fairways have overwintered remarkably well.  The root systems are still shallow and weak from
last year and from all the moisture in the ground this year.  Once spring flush begins, I don't foresee
any unusual problems with later root development.

The practice facility opening date is March 19th.  The practice green is looking good
and I am happy to say the root system of the green is in excess of 10".  I don't believe green speed will match the other greens till mid-season.

Restrooms are on the way to completion.  The drywall has been installed by Bill Taylor and he has begun taping and mudding.  Brickwork should begin mid March and we are shooting for April 1 opening date.

  1. I cannot wait to see the success of the new par 3 tee boxes. But I was sad to see the third tee box was removed from #6. This tee box brings some more challenge to the hole especially to those low handicappers. Also, to continue the aesthetics of the view from #13 tee box to the green can you seed more of the approach with bent grass and bring it back to its previous luster.
